Environmental Action Plan
City of Bowie, MD
The project involves development of a comprehensive Environmental Action Plan that consolidates and updates the City’s existing sustainability and climate planning efforts. Initiated in April 2025 and scheduled for completion in December 2025, the work integrates the City’s Sustainability Plan, Climate Action Plan, and Implementation Plan into a single, forward looking framework to guide greenhouse gas emissions reduction, climate resilience, and community well being. The scope includes a detailed baseline assessment of existing policies, programs, and performance, development of greenhouse gas emissions forecasts through 2050, and establishment of reduction targets aligned with state and county climate commitments. The Plan will evaluate and prioritize strategies across municipal operations and the broader community, with analysis of emissions impacts, implementation sequencing, and resource requirements. A costed implementation roadmap will identify phased actions, responsible departments, and potential funding sources, supported by development of a dynamic Environmental Action Tracker to support ongoing monitoring and reporting. Community and staff engagement is integrated throughout the process through public workshops, surveys, and internal coordination, with outreach supported by tailored communications and visual branding. The final Environmental Action Plan will present measurable actions and clear implementation guidance and will be presented to City Council to support adoption and long term execution.
