CLIMATE ACTION PLANS

Client:
Birmingham, AL Metropolitan Statistical Area

Project: Climate Action Plan

For this project, Blue Strike conducted a full inventory of GHG emissions for the region which included all sinks by emission source and sink category, following commonly accepted protocols for sector such as Industry, electricity generation and/or use, transportation, commercial and residential  buildings, agriculture, natural and working lands, and waste and materials management.  Blue Strike assisted the City in establishing implementation measures with near-term (2030-2035) and long-term (2050) GHG reduction  targets. Goals were in line with the United States formal commitments to reduce emissions  50-52% below 2005 levels by 2030 and to reach net zero emissions by 2050.  Throughout the planning process, Blue Strike ran scenarios to evaluate costs, emission reduction potential, with a heavy focus on identifying GHG reduction measures that would deliver co-pollutant emissions reductions to low-income and disadvantaged communities  (LIDACs).
